About us
WORKING STRATEGIES 4U was set up in 2007 by Lucy Stainer and Trisha Ware, who both have a passion for creating a positive learning experience.

How it started
The Nursing Notebook was our first Notebook, and it originated from work we created for the Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education - Guidelines to Support Nursing Learners with Dyslexia in Practice![]()
We have plans to create Notebooks for some other professions, and are also able to provide adaptations to the Notebooks on request. Contact us to find out more.
More about Lucy

Lucy Stainer is a senior lecturer in nursing at Bournemouth University.
What Lucy says ...
"I teach on the pre-registration programme as well as the mentorship programme. My nursing field is surgery having worked within various specialities and held different roles. Seeking opportunities to maximise the learning experience, hence the notebooks, is an area of special interest to me."
What Trisha says ...
"I initially trained as a children’s and adult nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I then worked within a number of Special Baby Units in London and Nottingham, before working in Derby on a children’s medical ward.
After that I trained and worked as a Health Visitor for 15 years in the Midlands, supporting mothers and their young families. While teaching in FE on Nursery Nurse courses I gained a BEd. It was during this time that I came across a number of students with Dyslexia, who were having trouble with their studies, both academic and in placement. To support them better I completed a 1 year PostGraduate Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy with the Dyslexia Institute.
Ever since then I have been working with University students, supporting their academic studies. Much of the support work has been involved in supporting student nurses, both academically, and increasingly with their placement work.
Through ADSHE (Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education) I became more involved with supporting student nurses in placement, through the development of the guidelines, and the notebook.
With my unique experience of working as a nurse, and my knowledge and understanding of both nursing and supporting dyslexic students, I am very well equipped to help develop and improve the student nurse experience within placement."
